La forêt lumière

In this sixth volume of Dogmatix and the Indomitables, the defiant animals of Lutetia once again resist Roman oppression in three new short stories, filled with mischief, magic, and cleverly layered humor.
No English translation is available yet. The translations of the titles here below are my own. The Dutch title of the album for example is De Bosgeesten, which in English would translate to The Forest Spirits which gives off a spookier vibe.
Stories
The title story, “La forêt lumière” [Lightforest], sees Roman architect Anglaigus begin construction on a road meant to link Lutetia to Rome. His plan requires felling parts of the forest surrounding the city. The druid Amnésix, concerned for the sacred woodland, uses a special potion to help protect it—but the result is unexpected: the trees begin to glow eerily at night. Dogmatix (Idéfix) and his gang cleverly exploit this phenomenon to frighten off the Romans and protect the forest.
The second story, “Du pain et des jeux” [Crumbs and Games], revolves around a mysterious bread shortage in the city. The animals conduct their own investigation, and chaos ensues, driven by puns, slapstick, and the series’ signature irreverent tone.
The third and final story, “Le retour de Chevrotine” [The Return of Chevrotine], is based on an episode from season 2 of the animated series. Chevrotine returns to Lutetia, determined to take revenge on the Romans. Dogmatix and his companions must decide whether to support her bold plan or temper her thirst for vengeance.
Artwork
The artwork by Jean Bastide, already familiar to readers of Boule et Bill, brings expressive character design and dynamic action to each panel. The album blends humor with soft moral lessons while staying faithful to the spirit of Asterix. Of note is the glow-in-the-dark cover—a playful nod to the luminous forest in the opening story.
This album follows Idéfix et le druide and precedes La traversée de Lutèce from September 2024.
