Inauguration of the Initial Asterix Park Germany

June 1, 2026

The German amusement park Belantis, situated near Leipzig, has officially inaugurated a novel thematic sector centered on the Asterix and Obelix franchise. This development marks the commencement of a comprehensive, multi-year redevelopment strategy aimed at transforming the facility into a German counterpart to the established Parc Astérix in France.

Infrastructure and Attraction Development

Designated as Idefix’ Abenteuerland (Dogmatix’s Adventure Land)—named after the franchise’s prominent canine character—the newly developed sector is structurally optimized for families with young children. The area integrates a large playground, culinary facilities, retail space, and character meet-and-greets.

The expansion introduces four primary family-oriented mechanical attractions: a miniature water flume, an interactive pedaling carousel, a vertical oscillating gondola ride, and a children’s traffic circuit. The ride systems for this sector were predominantly engineered and supplied by the Italian manufacturing firm Zamperla.

The inauguration of the sector, which required a capital investment of approximately 5 million euros, featured a ceremonial ribbon-cutting involving around fifty children. The event was attended by park executives and Anne Goscinny, daughter of Asterix co-creator René Goscinny. During the proceedings, she remarked that her father could not have anticipated the intellectual property’s eventual physical expansion into Germany. Belantis director Filip De Witte characterized the opening as the inception of a new era for the establishment.

Corporate Strategy and Projections

This initial development is the first visible operational phase under the stewardship of Compagnie des Alpes, the French leisure group that acquired Belantis last year. The conglomerate’s portfolio already includes Parc Astérix and the Walibi properties.

The overarching corporate strategy dictates a phased schedule of capital investments in infrastructure and thematic attractions over the coming decade. Immediate developmental pipelines include a Grecian-themed family roller coaster slated for operational debut in 2027.

Ultimately, the facility is scheduled for a formal corporate rebranding to Asterix Park Deutschland between 2030 and 2031. Operating in Saxony since 2003, Belantis currently reports an annual attendance of roughly 300,000 visitors. Through these sustained structural and thematic upgrades, Compagnie des Alpes projects a threefold increase in annual visitor volume upon the project’s completion.
