Dogmatix advertisement
While I was scanning the covers of my album collection, I came across two advertisements for the Dutch Dogmatix booklets from 1973. On the back of the cover of two albums there is an advertisement for these booklets as well as new Iznogoud albums.
Mansions of the Gods
The scan to the right comes from the back of the Mansions of the Gods album printed in 1973. It is dedicated to just the Dogmatix booklets. Only four of these were ever translated to Dutch. A total of 16 were released in French.
Soothsayer
In the 1974 print of the Dutch album Asterix and the Soothsayer Dogmatix has to share the page with Iznogoud.
Iznogoud
When you like the Asterix adventures written by Goscinny, you might be familiar with Iznogoud as well. Iznogoud is the Grand Vizier of the Caliphate of Baghdad. He really wants to replace the Caliph, and is well-known for his phrase “I want to be Caliph instead of the Caliph”
The Iznogoud balloon reads:
I am Iznogoud Great Vizier in the fairytale-like Baghdad at the time of caliph Haroun El Plassid and I am full of murderous plans to terminate the caliph so I can become caliph instead of the caliph. So far, I haven’t had much success. But wait — there’s more! Tabary draws my sly, genius appearances, and Goscinny wrote my story. He is also the storyteller who came up with the adventures of Asterix, when I tell you that I can just as well keep my mouth shut.
Dogmatix
The Dogmatix balloons reads:
My boss, the very best Obelix, is best friends with Asterix. I believe I can assume that as a well-known fact. Well, because, as everyone knows, my round figured boss goes on a lot of adventures, I too have experienced quite a lot. Who else but me, Dogmatix, accompanied both adventurers? I am what you can call a dog who has quite a lot to tell, because when you travel a lot you have a lot of stories to tell en I traveled quite a bit in my life as a dog. Have a look at it in my own adventure albums.
Dogmatix albums
The little Dogmatix albums that were published in 1973 and 1974 are wanted collector items.
