Show case: The Largest Asterix Collector in the Netherlands

March 2, 2026

The Netherlands – the small town of Norg is the home of Orm Heerkens, possibly the most passionate Asterix collector in the country. At 60 years old, he manages an impressive collection of thousands of items related to Asterix and Obelix, ranging from comic albums to figurines, games, and other memorabilia. His collection is so extensive that he has become well-known in both regional and national media.

First Encounter with Asterix

The first album Orm read was Asterix the Gaul. “We always had comic books at home, but Asterix immediately stood out because of the drawings. As I got older, I also began to appreciate the humor and storylines,” he explains.

His favorite album is Asterix and the Big Fight, due to the colorful and comedic depiction of the Roman legionary and the little owl that follows him. Orm does not have a specific favorite character, as he feels the series is full of memorable figures.

How the Collection Began

Orm cannot precisely remember when his collection started. It likely began during a visit to France, where he found an Asterix figurine at a flea market. The comic albums were already in his possession. The collection grew slowly over time, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, his collecting accelerated significantly. He acquired a large part of another collector’s collection and set up his first “Asterix room.” Before that, most items were stored in boxes in the attic.

The Collection: From Albums to Exclusive Memorabilia

The focus of Orm’s collection is on older and exclusive items. His collection includes comic albums, translations, figurines, games, stamps, keychains, and other memorabilia. The most remarkable item is Le Village d’Asterix by Plastoy from 2004, complete with all accompanying magazines and a glass triptych that his wife made specially for him. The tin Mayfair chess set is considered one of the most valuable items on the market.

According to media reports, his collection now contains over 3,200 items, making Orm one of the largest Asterix collectors in the Netherlands. In addition to Asterix, he also collects other comics by Uderzo and Goscinny, such as Lucky Luke, Hoempapa, Johan Pikbroek, and Iznogoud, although for these he limits himself to albums only.

Managing the Collection

To keep track of his collection, Orm uses the database app Altova MyCollections. This app allows him to keep his collection updated on both PC and mobile, so he always knows what he owns and what he is still looking for. In addition, he has his own website with photos of his collection: asterix.great-site.net.

Items Still Sought

Despite the size of his collection, Orm is still searching for specific items. At the moment, he is looking for mini puzzle number 1 (60 pieces) from Jeux Nathan to complete a series of three puzzles.

Media Attention and Invitation for Fans

Orm’s collection has received attention from local newspapers to national TV programs. His house is literally filled with comic albums, figurines, games, and memorabilia, making him a unique figure in the Dutch collecting world.

Orm invites Asterix fans to see his collection in person: interested visitors can send him a message via Facebook.
