Irish
The Irish language (Gaeilge) is a Celtic language and one of Ireland’s official languages alongside English. It has ancient roots, with early inscriptions dating back to the 4th century. Irish follows a verb-subject-object (VSO) order and has a complex system of initial mutations that change the beginning of words. While most Irish people speak English as their first language, Irish is still taught in schools and used in media. Irish holds a special place in Irish culture and national identity.
