Fulliautomatix

Fulliautomatix is the village’s burly and hot-tempered blacksmith, known for his muscular build and somewhat particular friendship  with Unhygienix. A master of his trade, he forges mostly shields and tools. With a fiery personality to match his forge, he often asserts himself as a key figure in village affairs. He has a particular disdain for Cacofonix the bard, frequently silencing his performances with blunt force. Despite his gruff demeanor, Fulliautomatix is respected for his craftsmanship and dedication, playing a vital role in the strength and self-sufficiency of the village.

Résumé

  • First appearance:

    Asterix the Gaul

  • Original French name:

    Cétautomatix

  • Meaning:

Fulliautomatix’s name in the English Asterix series is a clever nod to industrial efficiency, suggesting a blacksmith who works as efficiently as a fully automatic machine — a humorous exaggeration of his strength and speed at the forge. In the original French version, his name is Cétautomatix, derived from c’est automatique, meaning “it’s automatic.” This playfully emphasizes his straightforward, no-nonsense approach to work and life. In Dutch, he is named Hoefnix, a combination of hoef (meaning “hoof,” referencing blacksmiths’ traditional role in shoeing horses) and nix (a colloquial term for “nothing”). This clever name suggests that he doesn’t mess around and gets the job done with no fuss.
