Studios Idéfix was founded in 1974 by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo to take control of Astérix animated films after their dissatisfaction with early adaptations, including an unauthorized version of Astérix et la Serpe d’Or. The studio produced the original feature Les Douze Travaux d’Astérix (1976) and the Lucky Luke film La Ballade des Dalton (1978), with a stable team of animators and meticulous attention to fidelity. Studios Idéfix set new standards for author-supervised animation in France, though it closed shortly after Goscinny’s death in 1977. Later Astérix films were produced by Gaumont, Les Studios de Paris, M6 Studio, and other French studios, including both animated and live-action adaptations. Today, Studios Idéfix remains a unique chapter in Astérix history, celebrated by fans and remembered for its dedication to quality, author oversight, and faithful adaptation of the beloved Gaulish characters.
