Les Irréductibles font leur cirque

spektakel in de arena
Dutch cover

Translation of the Title: “Les Irréductibles font leur cirque” literally translates to “The Indomitables are putting on a circus.” However, in the context of the comic book, it suggests that our heroes find themselves in an absurd and comical situation, much like being in a circus.

The Dutch translators used “Spectacle in the Arena”.

Detailed Synopsis:

This fourth volume of the adventures of Dogmatix and the Indomitables once again immerses us in the tumultuous daily life of Gaul under Roman occupation. In this album, our favorite heroes face new challenges, each more bizarre than the last:

  • The Indomitables Join the Circus: While trying to save a lion destined for the Roman circus, Dogmatix, Turbine, Baratine, and Padgachix find themselves captured and trained to become gladiators. They must use their cunning and accept the unexpected help of Voldenuix to escape and save the lion. This adventure places our heroes in a completely unexpected context, transforming them into gladiators against their will.
  • Dogmatix and the Roman Soup: Poulérotix and Pomdofine are tasked with preparing a feast for General Labienus. A culinary disaster puts their lives in danger, and it’s up to Dogmatix, thanks to his keen sense of smell and improvised cooking skills, to save them. This story highlights the unexpected abilities of our heroes and their ability to get out of difficult situations.
  • Menhirs in the Sky: The Romans, always in search of new materials for their constructions, steal the menhirs of Lutetia, including the one that marks the Indomitables’ hideout. Our heroes decide to recover their precious menhirs, but quickly realize the difficulty of the task. This adventure emphasizes the Gauls’ attachment to their heritage and their determination to protect it.

Key points of the album:

  • Humor and adventure: As in previous volumes, humor is omnipresent, mixed with bizarre situations and unexpected twists.
  • Friendship and solidarity: The bonds of friendship that unite Dogmatix and his companions are always at the heart of the story, pushing them to help each other in difficult times.
  • Criticism of Romanization: The album continues to denounce the Romanization of Gaul and celebrates Gaulish values.

In summary, “Les Irréductibles font leur cirque” is another successful installment in the series that will delight both young and old with its funny stories and endearing characters.
